Limousines have the reputation of being a stylish and sophisticated way to travel if you are planning a night out at the theatre. Alternatively you think of limousines as the chosen transport for business people who need to get to a meeting or make a flight on time. However, as anyone who has ever gotten a reputation from a vicious rumour will know, you can’t always believe in someone (or something’s) reputation.

Chances are the reality is quite different to the reputation and while there are just a few people who ruin the reputation for everyone else, it doesn’t mean that everyone who hires a limousine is primarily worried about whether they have remembered their opera glasses.

For example, an increase in police patrols around Victorian beaches has revealed that not all of the activities in the area are as pure as the soft white sands. During summer, the local police have found that the drunken activity around the beaches increases so significantly that they need to step up their patrols from the usual 25 officers, to almost twice that many for the weekend night shifts.

The main problem the police find on Victorian’s beaches is people consuming alcohol in public places and one weekend a large beach party also had to be shut down. These extra patrols also deal with the drunken crowds which heat the streets after the bars have closed, as well as the odd fight or domestic disturbance which may crop up.

One major incident these extra weekend patrols uncovered on Saturday night was an 18 year old male who was initially arrested for being drunk in a public place. The 18 year old as with a group of friends, celebrating their graduation and when he was arrested, he was also found to be in possession of a large amount of ecstasy.

The group of graduates had also hired a limousine as part of their celebrations and when the limo was searched, the police found a substantial amount of alcohol inside. The police are planning to investigate how and why the limo hire company allowed so much alcohol inside their limousine, and why they did so when some passengers were underage.
